Bhapa Ilish – Ready to be served with hot steamed rice…
The marinated Ilish with yoghurt, mustard paste, mustard oil, coconut n green chillies, ready to be microwaved….
It’s one of my favorites when it comes to Bengali cuisine, it’s tasty, tempting and extremely easy to cook.
Ingredients:
4 thick pieces of Ilish
1/2 cup yoghurt
2 tablespoon mustard paste with 2/3 green chilies
2 tablespoon grated coconut or coconut powder
salt as per taste
2 whole green chilies
1 tablespoon mustard oil
1/4 cup water
Method:
Wash the Ilish and add 1 teaspoon salt and pinch of turmeric powder and mix well
Beat the yoghurt, add mustard paste, 1 teaspoon salt, coconut powder, water and mix well
In a microwave bowl place the fish pieces on the bottom and add the yoghurt mix
Add to slit green chilies and add the mustard oil on the top
Cover the bowl with clean-wrap and pierce the wrap with a fork at 2/3 places
Microwave on high for 4 minutes
Open and carefully turn the fish pieces upside down, cover it again and microwave on high for 2 more minutes.
Alternatively, you can steam the bowl in a steamer or a big vessel filled with half water, cover and steam for about 15 minutes on medium flame.
